Expert reveals how you breathe may be the reason you are struggling to lose the weight.

Patrick McKeown, who coaches Olympic athletes said several studies have proven breathing through your nose helps increase your metabolism which helps you shed those pounds, according to a report by the Daily Mail.

He further explains inhaling and exhaling through the mouth prevents one from getting a good night's sleep. It is also associated with many health issues like stress, obesity and sleep apnea.

Mouth breathing causes people to stay awake if they don't get enough oxygen.

"Breathing through your mouth leads to lower quality sleep. Many studies have shown that poor sleep is linked to increased appetite and a higher chance of obesity," McKeown told the Daily Mail.

Adding, "It's also associated with a higher risk of a range of health issues including higher blood pressure, poor cardiovascular health and even dementia."

However, breathing through the nose increases oxygen supply which helps improve sleep quality.

McKeown suggests training yourself to breath properly which will also keep “hunger-suppressing hormones in balance".
