The juvenile convicted in the December 2012 Delhi gangrape, who was released from a reformation home on Sunday, has been turned into a test case of our criminal justice system. Protesters must realise that his release was ordained by the the Juvenile Justice Act. At the same time, the Centre’s show of helplessness, blaming the Opposition for stalling the amendment to the bill in the Rajya Sabha, is pure rhetoric. If it can issue an ordinance for land acquisition, why couldn’t it issue an ordinance in this matter, which has seen much debate and discussion over the last three years
