The Supreme Court bench headed by Justice J.S. Khehar on the damage to public property during violent protests is laudable in view of the Jat community’s protests for reservation in Haryana. The bench stated, “No one can hold the country to ransom during agitations,” adding that “we must take a call on the issue and we would frame guidelines for taking action against people indulging in such acts.” The Supreme Court would do well to make agitators pay for their violence, whether in Gujarat or in Haryana.
