Infantry Day celebrated

The day is observed every year on October 27, coinciding with the arrival of first batch of Indian troops in Srinagar on this day in 1947.

Srinagar: The Army on Friday celebrated 70th Infantry Day at various locations across Jammu and Kashmir, including Northern Command headquarters in garrison town of Udhampur and Srinagar-based Chinar Corps command centre.

The day is observed every year on October 27, coinciding with the arrival of first batch of Indian troops in Srinagar on this day in 1947.

“The 70th Infantry Day was celebrated with traditional solemnity and gaiety all across the Northern Command,” a defence spokesman said in Udhampur. He added that Lt. Gen. D. Anbu, GOC-IN-C Northern Command, complimented all ranks of Infantry for their devotion, duty and indomitable spirit.
