Police sources said that the security forces were returning from election duty in Langate area of the Baramulla constituency when a group of youth allegedly pelted stones at them outside Mandigam village.

Srinagar: Though polling in Jammu and Kashmir’s two Lok Sabha constituencies — Baramulla and Jammu — passed off peacefully, a 13-year-old boy was killed when the security forces fired live ammunition to quell a stone-pelting mob while withdrawing from election duty in frontier Kupwara district on Thursday evening.

Police sources said that the security forces were returning from election duty in Langate area of the Baramulla constituency when a group of youth allegedly pelted stones at them outside Mandigam village. The security forces fired pellets and used live ammunition, resulting into the death of a Class 7 student identified as Owais Ahmad Mir.
