Parineeti Chopra has been getting rave response for her singing debut in her next romantic film Meri Pyaari Bindu. Since her character is a singer, the actress sang the cult song Piya Tose Naina Lage Re, originally sung by Lata Mangeshkar, while shooting in Kolkata.

However, it wasn’t a walk in the park for the actress, who took quite a while to get the hang of the song. “I had to take many retakes while singing the song because I didn’t want to go wrong with a Lata Mangeshkar song. I rehearsed a lot for it that day,” says Parineeti.

At a recent launch of a new song in her film, she also said that actors can never replace professional playback singers. “I feel playback singers can never be replaced because they are technically sound experts and professionals. When we dance, nobody questions us about why we’re dancing when there are dancers available. So if there are actors who want to sing, why should one question them?”

The actress will be seen alongside Ayushmaan Khurrna and has played the role of a Tamilian singer.
