Pune: India's biggest car maker Maruti Suzuki's premium sedan Ciaz has emerged as the best seller in the competitive midsize sedan segment in the country for the third consecutive year clocking a market share of 30 per cent.

The Maruti Ciaz has successfully fought competition from key rivals such as the Honda City and Hyundai Verna.

However, sales of Ciaz were down 21 per cent at 46,169 units in 2018-19, down from 58,913 units sold during FY18, the latest data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers or Siam, the apex trade body showed.

Interestingly, key rival Honda City ended the fiscal with sales of 41,072 units, also down 27 per cent, followed by the Hyundai Verna which sold 39,568 units, an increase of 10 per cent. Others in the midsize sedan segment include the new Toyota Yaris which sold 11,831 units, the Skoda Rapid 10,457 units and the Volkswagen Vento 5,871 units.
