This basic level math question has befuddled the internet. Can you solve it?

One look at this and you might probably dismiss this simple school level math question. But this has been befuddling the internet for hours. Posted by a Twitter user on Monday, 8 divided by 2(2+2) is the equation in question. Since being shared online, it has gone viral with over 12,000 'likes' and thousands of comments. People can't agree on the correct answer.

8/2 = 4
4(4) = 16

According to PEMDAS you need to get rid of parathenses first so
2(4)=8
8/8=1 answer is one.
