Mohit Raina gears up to play Samrat Ashoka

After creating a lasting impression as Lord Mahadev in his last show Devo Ka Dev Mahadev popular actor Mohit Raina is all set to play another larger than life character on the tube. The actor’s upcoming assignment will see him as the great emperor Ashoka in the historical Chakravartin Ashoka Samrat. The actor’s look for the show is generating a fair amount of curiosity as he is looking younger and refreshingly different as the grown up Ashoka. Point that out to him and the actor smiles in agreement. “It is very exciting when you physically transform yourself for a character. Honestly, I haven’t gathered much feedback on my look for the show as we are still working on the overall appearance. I have just shot for the promo so far. But it’s quite a compliment when you say I look younger and refreshingly different in the first look pictures. When you get the look right, half the battle is won.”

Elaborating further on his role, Mohit adds, “I am very happy to play Ashoka. It’s a monumental character. When the character has huge potential, automatically the job of the actor becomes easy. It’s about an emperor’s journey and how he conquered everything before finally embracing Buddhism. Ashoka has been the greatest emperor of all times, so obviously I am super excited to play him on the screen. The role has a lot of variations. After Mahadev, it fit my profile. To be honest, I was apprehensive initially but seeing the canvas of the character and the efforts of the creatives I was convinced.”

Post Mahadev it’s been a prolonged sabbatical for the actor. When asked why he made his fans wait for so long to see him back on the tube, the actor insisted the delay was unintentional. “I wanted to play something different, so I chose to wait patiently till an exciting offer came my way. I am glad I finally found the role I was looking for. Yes, my break was long indeed but I am back now to entertain my fans.”
