Actor and son of producer Kumar Taurani, Girish Kumar is back on screen with Loveshhuda after a break of two years, since Ramaiya Vastavaiya. In a quick chat, the actor talks about the scarcity of good scripts, taking an untimely sabbatical and keeping competition at bay.
You debuted in 2013. What made you take a gap of two years After Ramaiya Vatsavaiya, I felt that I should do good roles. I was very picky with the scripts. The roles, which were offered to me, didn’t interest me. I was waiting for the right script to come and when director Vaibhav Mishra came to me with Loveshhuda, I loved it and agreed to do it.
Were you worried about the gap immediately after your debut It was little tough to be impatient but I was very hopeful. I had full faith that a good film will surely come to me.
You were the most senior on the sets of Loveshhuda. Did you have to play a senior off screen too (Laughs). Yes, I was the most senior person on the sets as my co-star Navneet Dhillon and director Vaibhav Mishra are newcomers. I used to scold them if something went wrong—the sets-in jest of course.
Do you consider other star kids such as Varun Dhawan and Ranbir Kapoor as serious competition I feel that having competition with all these star kids is not fair. I don’t worry about what others do. I believe that everyone has his/her own fights and struggle to sustain in the industry.
