World no.1 Novak Djokovic is back in the final of the season-ending ATP World Tour Finals.
The top-ranked Serb thrashed Rafael Nadal 6-3, 6-3 on Saturday at the O2 Arena in London here, putting him just one win away from a fourth straight title at the tournament played between the top eight players in the world.
Djokovic will face either six-time champion Roger Federer or Stan Wawrinka in Sunday’s final.
Djokovic was strong when he had the ball, losing only seven points on his serve in the first set and three in the second. He was also good enough when he needed be on the receiving end, converting three of his five break points.
Earlier on Friday, Wawrinka booked a potentially feisty all-Swiss semifinal clash against Federer after knocking Andy Murray out with a 7-6 (7/4), 6-4 victory.
Wawrinka’s victory sealed second place behind group winner Nadal and the World No.4 will play six-time champion Federer in a rematch of last year’s stormy semifinal at the prestigious season-ending event.
Federer won that meeting in three sets after saving four match points, but the game is mostly remembered for reports of a heated post-match row between the players which was allegedly sparked by Federer’s wife Mirka heckling Wawrinka and calling him a “crybaby”.
“I’m excited to be back for the semifinals. It was tough battle,” Wawrinka said.
“I played a crazy match against Roger in the semi-finals last year. I will try and go and get some rest and be ready,” Wawrinka said in the post-match press conference.
