: Sania Mirza-Martina Hingis continued their unbelievable run of form to win the Australian Open title women’s double event in Melbourne on Friday. The Indo-Swiss pair overcame 7th seeded Czech duo of Andrea Hlavackova and Lucie Hradecka 7-6 (1), 6-3 in the finals.
Sania and Hingis entered the finals after a record 35th successive match win and extended their winning streak to 36 matches after clinching the Australian Open title.
In what was a sea-saw encounter, Mirza-Hingis held their nerves to win the first set 7-6. There were as many as eight breaks as both the pairs failed to hold onto their serves.
It eventually came down to tie-break before Sania, Martina could clinch the first set.
The World No. 1 pair did not look back from thereon and went berserk in the second set. They broke Hlavackova- Hradecka early in the second set and held the serve to take 2-0 lead.
The duo offered no opportunity to their opponent and took 4-1 lead in the second set.
The Czech pair broke Indo-Swiss duo but that was too late for a comeback as Mirza-Hingis won the second set 6-3 and sealed the Australian Open title.
