Asus is filling up the gap in the smartphone space with its line of Zenfone models. The brand is trying hard to capture the segment of buyers who were keen on premium phones but with affordable prices.

The Zenfone 3 Laser probably fills up that small gap, offering features that usually premium ones do. However, the handset seems to be a tad overpriced for the hardware it offers. The 3 Laser is destined to make consumers happy as it's intended for photography enthusiasts - with its quick auto-focus and improved camera. The rear is a 13MP — f/2.0 aperture with dual-LED flash, while the front is an 8MP for selfies.

Photos are sharp, pretty much above average and you definitely won’t have any complaints from this baby.

The display is 5.5-inch full-HD display, protected by 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass. The display is clear with text and images are pretty sharp. The Zenfone 3 Laser is powered by an 8-core 64-bit Snapdragon 430 chipset clocked at 1.4 GHz.

The integrated Adreno 505 graphics and 4GB of RAM add a good value to the smartphone's performance.

Internal storage is capped at 32GB but can be expanded up to 128GB.

Multitasking is smooth, but there’s a tiny noticeable lag with numerous apps working simultaneously in the background.

The fingerprint scanner is quick (quicker than the iPhone 6 for sure) and can unlock even on standby.

However the price for the Zenfone 3 Laser is a bit steep Rs 20,000 when comparing it to other handsets that offer better processors.

What could justify the price is the camera performance, the higher RAM offering and a sufficiently large battery at 3000mAh.

The smartphone could be overshadowed by the likes of Samsung’s Galaxy J7 Prime or the Lenovo Z2 Plus, which offer better value in terms of hardware and the overall performance of these smartphones.

However, if you are hunting for a premium-looking handset with decent performance for everyday use — a good features to hone your photography skills — the ASUS Zenfone 3 Laser could be your new toy.
