CES 2016 highlights: Pocket camera, drones and more

As this year's Consumer Electronics Show (CES) opens its doors in Las Vegas (USA), new products are already being presented thick and fast. Here's a first selection of five eye-catching devices spotted so far.

1. Livestream Movies Livestream is an online platform that specializes in broadcasting live video from user webcams. At CES 2016, the firm unveiled a mini video camera that films in 4K resolution for unrivalled live-stream quality. The Movi is due on sale in spring 2015 with prices starting at $399.

2. Samsung Smart Control South Korean tech giant Samsung has announced (although not yet actually presented) a new universal remote control running the Tizen OS and compatible with the firm's new generation of connected smart TVs. It's intended to control most of the devices directly connected to a TV (set-top box, games console, Blu-ray player, etc.).

3. Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Lenovo's innovative new 14-inch laptop features an OLED screen instead of the traditional LCD panel. This technology brings a wealth of advantages, in particular deeper blacks and higher contrast, as each individual pixel can switch off completely. OLED also makes for brighter displays than classic LCD. This PC should be in stores soon priced from $1,449.

4. Parrot Disco Drone French drone-maker Parrot has presented a new model with a minimalist, bird-like design, inspired by and at one with nature. This flying gadget has an ultra-light build (700g) but still manages to pack in several sensors (accelerometer, gyroscope, magnetometer, pressure sensor, GPS, etc.), as well as a front-facing video camera. The drone promises flight speeds of up to 80km/h (approx. 50 mph) while filming a stabilized image. Price and release dates are yet to be confirmed.

5. Withings Thermo The Withings Thermo is a smart forehead thermometer with WiFi connectivity. It uses 16 infrared (IR) sensors to take a temperature reading when positioned on the temporal artery on a patient's forehead. The sensors can take up to 4,000 readings in two seconds, while an algorithm works in the background to ensure the most accurate possible temperature reading.
