Google will roll out YouTube Red that will be available on a free monthly trial to its existing video-sharing site’s users

Tired of watching ads on YouTube Well, the video sharing website has announced that it will be launching YouTube Red, an ad-free version of the original. The new service is expected to be rolled out soon, for a monthly subscription.

Despite having a four billion-a-year revenue, mostly generated by ads, YouTube’s financial return is below what its parent company Google is looking at. YouTube’s new move to introduce premium services could see a spurt in revenues.

The new premium membership enables users to play only sound from music videos or let them play in the background while using other apps. Users can save videos and watch them offline at their leisure. YouTube Red will allow users to create curated playlists similar to Pandora and Spotify. Red subscribers will also have access to Google Play Music which allows users to store and play tracks online. Subcribers will also get access to select original shows and movies.

YouTube Red services has a free monthly trial version for those interested in trying out the new development. YouTube creators were angered when rumours spread that they wouldn’t be paid for videos watched during the free trial period but YouTube was quick to step in and clarify, using its creator blog, that it would pay video creators for the same period even without ads, “Your fans can still enjoy your content on YouTube for free and you’ll get paid from the ad revenue generated, as always. Even with 30-day free trials, our creator community will make as much or more as they would have without YouTube Red.”

A similar situation had also risen when Apple music was launched and the company had decided not to pay artists for the trial period. Apple eventually reversed its decision after Taylor Swift stepped in asking the company to do so.
