In the survey among 187 nations, WhatsApp topped the charts with a 55.6 per cent user base.

Next in the line is Facebook Messenger. Summing up, Facebook can take home the credit for managing close to 80 per cent of message transmission through apps from this data as it manages both WhatsApp and Messenger. In the third position is Viber, with a dominion in over 15 nations in Africa, Asia and Europe. From the data available till April 2016, Viber is the topper in Belarus, Moldova, Ukraine and some more countries. WhatsApp has got over a billion active users in the world.

So surprisingly, BlackBerry’s BBM still tops the number of takers in just one country in the world: Indonesia. Of all the Android devices, 87.5 per cent has BBM installed in them. Like BBM, WeChat, KakaoTalk and IMO too feature as the chart-topper in just one country.
