Xiaomi Mi A1 successor reportedly in the works: Report

Xiaomi's first Android One smartphone Mi A1 was launched last year, which ran stock Android Oreo out-of-the-box. As part of the Google's Android One initiative, the company had launched this mid-ranger without MIUI OS. However, a new leak suggests that A1's successor seems to be in the pipeline along with another Android One powered smartphone.

As spotted by folks on XDA Developers platform suggests that there are two new unannounced Xiaomi phones codenamed “jasmine_sprout” and “daisy_sprout”. Out of these two phones, one is believed to be the rebranded Mi 6X, which was released recently, while the other device is expected to be a cost-effective Android One device. According to the earlier Mi A1, the phone was codenamed ‘tissot_sprout’, henceforth these two new ‘sprout’ codenamed devices might be two new devices from Xiaomi under Android One's initiative.

As per the firmware files spotted, the jasmine_sprout is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 660 chipset, which we believe is likely to be the rebranded version of the Mi 6X. As per the previous iteration Mi 5X which released as Mi A1 in India, we can expect the same Mi 6X to be released as Mi A2 under Android One program.

The other device, codenamed daisy_sprout, is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 chipset. If rumours are believed to be true this might be the Redmi S2, which also runs on the same SoC and was recently cleared China's 3C certification. This could be the other affordable Android One smartphone.
