The race for market dominance is every manufacturer’s dream and Huawei is no different from others when it comes to beating Apple’s smartphones at their own game. The company has recently taken off wraps from its three flagship smartphones. Yes, three! There’s a euro 649 (roughly Rs 52,000) P20, a Euro 899 (Rs 72,000) P20 Pro and a Euro 2,095 (roughly Rs 1,68,990) 512GB Mate RS Porsche Design.

Let’s start from the bottom. The P20 is their bread-and-butter flagship offering that imitates the iPhone X’s display notch and a glass rear panel design. Huawei says that the glass shifts colours when viewed from different angles. The P20 houses a 5.8-inch FullView LCD RGBW full HD+ display and a capacitive fingerprint sensor on the face. The notch on top of the display houses a 24MP selfie camera, all the sensors and an earpiece. The rear sports a dual camera system — 12MP+20MP setup, with the latter one being a monochrome sensor. The P20 utilises the Kirin 970 SoC accompanied by 4GB of RAM and runs on EMUI 8.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo. It is fuelled by a 3400mAh battery and is available in 128GB variant only.

The P20 Pro is pretty similar to the standard P20, albeit with a few changes. First up is the bigger 6.1-inch OLED FullView full HD+ display with a capacitive fingerprint sensor tucked on the bottom lip. The battery is bumped to 4000mAh and RAM gets boosted to 6GB. However, the rear sports a Leica Triple Camera setup — 40MP RGB + 8MP Telephoto + 20MP Monochrome. This setup enables 5x hybrid zoom and 960fps slow motion video shooting. The camera is also assisted by AI stabilisation (AIS). The setup has been claimed to achieve a score of 109 on DxOMark, which makes it the benchmark.

Huawei P20 Pro

Lastly, the Huawei Mate RS Porsche Design is a special edition device aimed to fight it out with big boys. The Mate RS is essentially a redesigned P20 Pro with the no-notch display, i.e. it resembles the Galaxy Note 8’s display, especially with its curved edges. The display utilises an AMOLED panel with a picture resolution of QHD+ with 18:9 aspect ratio.

While the chipset and other internal specifications, including the triple camera, have been carried over from the P20 Pro, the Mate RS gets additional features such as dual fingerprint sensors and wireless charging. The Mate RS houses an in-display fingerprint sensor on the front and a capacitive fingerprint sensor on the rear. There’s also a stereo speaker setup and IP67 water and dust protection. The Mate RS is available in 256GB and 512GB storage options.

Huawei FreeBuds

Additionally, Huawei also unveiled FreeBuds — their answer to Apple’s AirPods. They look pretty similar but claim to provide a battery life of 10 hours on a single charge. They also have passive noise cancellation system, unlike the AirPods. They cost Euro 159 (roughly Rs 13,000) and will be available in black as well as white colours.
