YouTube Remix to kill Google Play Music soon

If you use an Android smartphone, then you must be familiar with Play Music — Google’s go-to app for all things music on Android. Initially, Play Music in India was simply limited to play mp3 files downloaded from the Internet, but Google released the subscription-based streaming service not long ago. Play Music utilises Google’s intelligent algorithms to curate playlists based on location or time of the day. However, Play Music doesn’t come to preference when in comparison with rival streaming services. Therefore, if rumours are to be believed, Google could be shutting it down and bring something more capable.

A report by DroidLife suggests that Google could be phasing out Play Music and bring in its place a new service by the name of YouTube Remix. The new service will utilise YouTube’s massive content library and merge it along with Play Music’s smart features to create an unparalleled streaming service, set to rival leaders such as Spotify and Apple Music. And this new service could be up and running on your smartphone by the end of 2018 or early 2019.

The existence of YouTube Remix in the future has been hinted at several occasions by the company’s top management. However, there’s no confirmed lead on this topic, which is why you should probably take this with a grain of salt. If YouTube Remix comes out soon, it will be interesting to see Google’s take on a modern music streaming service slated to rival the best in the industry. We expect Google to rely on their intelligent algorithms to create one of the most intelligent music streaming services, with smart playlists tailored to an individual’s taste.
