Xiaomi’s India's head Manu Kumar Jain has recently posted a tweet hinting the launch of a new smartphone. The smartphone will initiate a completely new series of selfie-centric smartphones in Xiaomi’s portfolio. No further details about this mysterious device have been revealed yet.

This announcement comes within a few days of the launch of the company’s most premium and iconic smartphone — the Mi MIX 2 (review). The company is hinting that this new smartphone will cater to the selfie-loving crowd. According to the teaser image, it could also have fast charging. It could also be flaunting Xiaomi’s first attempt at embedding AI in their India portfolio.

As far as the teaser hints, Xiaomi could be launching an all-new smartphone specifically designed for the Indian market. The device could flaunt a front flash, which could be a first for any Xiaomi smartphone. The smartphone could also come with a front camera surrounded by a flash ring, as suggested by the teaser image.

If it's not a new phone, then it could be the Mi Note 3 that was launched alongside the Mi MIX 2 in September. The Mi Note 3 has a 16MP front camera that uses clever AI algorithms to enhance pictures. The Mi Note 3 also has a premium body and houses fairly competent mid-range internals. It also has a dual rear camera setup, like the Mi A1 but runs on Xiaomi’s custom MIUI ROM.

It remains to be seen whether the company prices this mystery smartphone on par with the likes of Vivo V7+ and Honor 9i. Xiaomi could also release the MIUI 9 global ROM with this model and roll out the same for all other supported Xiaomi smartphones.
