Maps gets new vehicles to show navigation

Over the years, Google has been trying to make Maps a fun medium to explore new places across the globe. Several easter eggs are often rolled out to Maps to celebrate certain occasions or trends. However, while Maps has got many new features over the course of time for easing navigation, Google has finally updated the core element that is key to the importance of Maps in our lives — the blue icon.

Starting today, Maps users will be able to change the classic blue navigation icon into interesting icons. What are these interesting icons? Since most people use Maps while moving around in a vehicle, Google will let you change the arrow to a car, or a pickup truck, or a heavy-duty SUV. The icons are minimalist in nature and look pretty fun on the navigation screen. The icons are animated as well, giving out an impression that they are actually moving on the road.

The update has been rolled for iOS users as of now and we expect Google to roll it out for Android pretty soon. If you want to change your navigation icon, then all you need to do is tap on the blue arrow and choose from the options available.  However, we expect Google to roll out some exciting icons to replace the arrow — something like a Star Wars spaceship, or Mario’s cart.
