iPhone SE 2 to ditch 3.5mm headphone jack

The spree of rumours of the cheaper iPhone – iPhone SE 2 is still intact on the web and is expected to be happening. Apple has recently registered numerous unreleased iPhone model numbers with the EEC, a Russian-language regulatory organisation. This listing suggested few of the new iPhone model numbers – out of which one of them is believed to be iPhone SE 2's model number. However, a new insight has been surfaced again, which adds fuel to this speculated rumour mill.

Reported by macotakara, a case maker has revealed that the upcoming cheaper iPhone, which tends to be named newer iPhone SE or iPhone SE 2 will feature a glass body to support Qi wireless charging similar to the current iPhone line-up. The case maker also suggested that the company is ditching the 3.5mm headphone jack and also supports NFC for Apple Pay.

On the specification front, Apple is building the cheaper iPhone SE on an A10 Fusion chip similar to the recently released 2018's Apple 9.7 iPad this month. This newer chip claims to be powerful and enables HEIF/HEVC media recording. This might hint us that the new iPhone SE would be similar to Apple's iPhone 7 and 7 Plus in terms of performance.

However, the report proposes no change on the front compared to iPhone SE or iPhone 5s and features TouchID and the company is projecting to stuck with the compact 4-inch screen. This smaller form factor can be a bit old for today's generation of smartphones but this iconic design was intended by Steve Jobs (for iPhone 5S) and there are a lot of users who still love this smaller form factor. According to the case maker, the new cheaper iPhone SE 2 is rumoured to be released in May or June at WWDC slated on June 4, this year.
