The world of smartphones is eagerly looking forward to the announcement of the next major flagship device from Samsung’s stable. Scheduled to be announced on August 9, the Galaxy Note 9 is expected to hold many surprises for its fans, especially as Samsung is teasing the S Pen exclusively. However, it seems that this year’s Note 9 could be last from its lineup, with Samsung reportedly looking to merge the Note series with the S series flagships.

According to a report from The Bell, Samsung is looking to cut development costs, which might result in the Note series being pulled off from the brand’s lineup. Samsung aims to do that because of the Note device and the Plus sized Galaxy S model overlapping each other and eating into each other’s sales. The report mentions that Samsung will instead offer three models on the Galaxy S series, with the S pen possibly becoming a part of the most expensive variant.

Last year’s Galaxy Note 8 was a great flagship smartphone from Samsung’s stable. However, it was loosely a tweaked Galaxy S8+ — the only difference the Note 8 possessed was a slightly bigger 6.3-inch display, a dual rear camera setup and support for S Pen. this year’s Note 9 is expected to be a mildly modified version of the S9 Plus, with a slightly bigger display, and support for the s Pen. In essence, it is expected to be similar to the Galaxy S9+ if you take away the S Pen and the Note branding.

The predictions of the report fall in line with the rumours of Samsung expected to unveil three new models under the Galaxy S10 banner. There could be a possibility that the Note 10 could morph into the biggest S10 variant and go head on with the 2018 OLED iPhone Plus, which in turn is expected to be launched in September.

This is still a rumour from an unconfirmed source and therefore you should exercise caution before fully giving in to this piece of information. Samsung is all set to unveil the next Note smartphone in New York on August 9, with the S Pen expected to feature additional Bluetooth-based features.
