If there isn’t enough news that will put you off purchasing the upcoming 2019 iPhone, then the latest bit of information will be the final nail in the coffin. As per a report by 9to5Mac, reputed analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo has shared details about an upcoming iPhone and they are features that would be worth holding out for.

As per a research note, Kuo states that the 2021 iPhone will not just continue using Face ID, but it will also bring back the fan-favourite Fingerprint sensor. This ingenious plan from Apple is expected to be based on Qualcomm’s ultrasonic technology and like Android smartphones; it won’t be confined to a small part of the display. Instead, it will be active across the whole screen. With this feature in tow, there will be certain arguments cropping up which claim that Apple has refrained from using in-display Touch ID because it wants to do something that’s the best and not a half-baked solution as what Android manufacturers use.

There were certain reports claiming that this feature would be available on next year’s iPhones; however, it appears that Apple will be pushing it back an entire year in order for this technology to be perfected. While it can come as a disappointment that we will have to wait till 2021 to see theses breakthrough features, we would rather have something work flawlessly instead of the painfully slow under-display fingerprint scanner seen on Samsung’s Galaxy S10 handsets.

The in-display fingerprint scanner alongside Apple’s unbeatable Face ID technology makes for a compelling handset with above-average security features. These two technologies will work complimentary with each other and we see an advantage to it.

9to5Mac states, “TF Securities Ming-Chi Kuo sees the facial recognition and fingerprint recognition technologies as complementary and believes Apple will want to unify the experiences. Apple has been filing patents on under-display fingerprint recognition technologies which suggest Apple is still pursuing a Touch ID future (without the button). However, current technological challenges to launching fingerprint-under-display components include power consumption, size of the sensing area, the thickness of the sensing module, and the production yield rate of the lamination process. Kuo says he believes these issues will be addressed in the next year or so, opening the door for Apple to design into the 2021 iPhone.”
