Apple introduced 3D Touch with the iPhone 6S and since then it’s been one of the go-to modes of communicating with iPhones. Now, rumours are gathering pace which indicates that Apple will be killing off this handy feature and in the process, eliminating its power-users who have long used this feature to quickly access a variety of apps.

At the WWDC event, Apple showed off a plethora of new features that managed to wow the world. However, one thing that the brand left out was 3D Touch and this once highly praised feature did not make it to the wider Apple plans. So, with this in mind, Apple now plans to eliminate it altogether.

A report by Forbes aptly puts it by stating that 3D Touch was a cute gimmick that helped create an air of excitement around the iPhone 6S launch way back in 2015 and it was considered more than a specifications upgrade over the iPhone 6. With the iPhone 6 still being supported by Apple, at least until iOS 13 releases this fall, 3D Touch was never given a chance to be fully integrated within iOS.

The report states, “In essence 3D Touch was dead on arrival. Because it was a new feature, developers could not assume that the feature would be present - older iPhones did not have the pressure sensitive layer - so anything that could be activated through 3D Touch had to be available through another part of the UI, or be a unique feature that would be forever untouchable.”

There were rumours suggesting that Apple would be killing off 3D Touch and now it has been confirmed as The Verge states, “The first iOS 13 developer beta is now available, and users are discovering that Apple’s 3D Touch functionality seems to have been all but replaced."

While 3D Touch may have met its untimely demise, Force Touch is far from dead as Apple is still using it on its other products such as the Apple Watch.
