Famous game developer Hideo Kojima has established an independent studio and their first game will be a PlayStation 4 exclusive
Within 24 hours of ending his contract with Konami, Hideo Kojima had already established a new studio with an exclusive partnership with Sony Computer Entertainment.
In a short video hosted by Andrew House, President and Global CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, it was revealed that Hideo Kojima had established his studio with key members of his team, and their first game will be a console exclusive for the PlayStation 4.
The new studio will still be called Kojima Productions and is working on a completely new IP and will come to PC after its PS4 release.
This exclusivity is only true for the first game in the series so its sequels might come to other platforms. The friction between Konami and Kojima was well known publically, as Konami had removed his name from the cover of MGSV and had cancelled Silent Hills — a horror game he was making with Guillermo del Toro. In a more recent event, Konami had banned him from attending The Game Awards and accept his award for MGSV.
Kojima is fully aware that his fans primarily own PlayStation consoles, as both his name and the Metal Gear Solid franchise have been associated with PlayStation since the first ever console. He also mentioned that he wanted to work freely in a comfortable environment, and that SCE was known for giving a lot of freedom to their developers. So, this partnership did not come as a huge surprise.
Hideo Kojima is widely regarded as a creative genius, and it’ll be interesting to see whether he creates something familiar or a new genre. After already mastering stealth-action, most fans want him to make something completely new that will both surprise and excited them.
And who knows, we might even get that Del Toro collaboration.
