Microsoft is finally working on adding keyboard and mouse support for its Xbox One. The company is supposedly collaborating with Razer to achieve this by enabling Chroma RGB lighting support to Xbox games. A new report from The Verge suggests that Microsoft is briefing its developers about this new support, which is most likely to happen soon this year.

According to the report, Microsoft and Razer had presented their collaboration plans at an annual Xfest event held for developers, this year. Razer appears to be allowing developers to dig into the required API, which further helps in adding lighting effects to the games being played. The report also suggests if this plan gets into action later this year, Xbox One users can start using this after the Microsoft’s update for Xbox coming this fall.

This new support appears to be cool but it isn’t still clear about its effect on multiplayer games. The report further suggests that Microsoft is allowing developers to detect whether a mice or keyboard is present on the Xbox One, and the games could likely only match the keyboard and mouse users with similarly equipped players. Microsoft is also reportedly offering tools needed to ensure games could implement the support in multiple ways.

Furthermore, Microsoft will be supporting all kinds of USB mice or wireless mice, however, Bluetooth mice wouldn’t get this support at the initial launch. Microsoft is also working on new game APIs for developers to detect and block all the third-party mouse and keyboard accessories.

The XDK support for the developers was initially targeted for April this year, but now the rollout will most likely be scheduled with the Windows 10 fall update later this year.
