YouTube goes dark

YouTube had rolled out a major update for its desktop site last year. This included a redesign and an additional ‘dark mode’. It looks like YouTube has moved this feature to the mobile app, as well.

The change was spotted by a few micro blogging site users on the latest 13.0.1 version of the app. The dark mode has been among the top requests from YouTube users. Apart from looking cool and being easy on the eyes, the dark mode is said to save battery life too.

The option to turn on dark mode – called ‘Dark Theme’ – is on the YouTube app’s Settings screen, just above the Restricted Mode setting.

During the launch of the theme for desktop, YouTube had mentioned that it would track the usage of the feature before determining whether to expand it further.
