Samsung to come up with a 1000fps camera sensor

Samsung has been making noticeable strides in the mobile optics department from the past few years. The Galaxy S8 and even last year’s Galaxy S7 are some of the best camera smartphones in the market. However, this year’s Sony Xperia XZ1 came out with a camera that could achieve 960fps, leading the smartphone camera race by huge margins. It seems that the Korean giant wants to answer Sony’s attempt with a 1000fps camera.

An ETNews report states that Samsung is taking strides in developing a 1000fps camera sensor and even is readying to begin prototype trials early next month. The report also describes the technology behind this 1000fps sensor — it will use 3-layered image sensor like the one on Sony, but will have more DRAM attached to store more image data.

This camera sensor is expected to debut on Samsung’s next flagship — the Galaxy S9, that is expected to debut early next year. With a 1000fps sensor, users will be able to shoot incredible slow-motion videos. The Galaxy S9 is already expected to feature the dual camera sensor like the Galaxy Note 8.
