Over the past couple of months or so, Facebook can be distinctively observed to be stealing off many of the primary features already available on Snapchat. Initially, the move came across as shocking but as time passed by and Facebook started copying features more times than often, consumers got used to it. However, what might the reason behind Facebook’s blatant attempt at copying Snapchat.

A new report by The Information claims that Facebook essentially copies Snapchat in order to stay ahead in the competition. In fact, the social-media giant has also reportedly created a ‘Teens Team’ in an attempt to win back its teenage user-base. What’s more? Facebook is not into hiding its tactics, especially internally.

What’s interesting to note is that Facebook’s blatant move at copying Snapchat has been successful --- something that cannot be observed in other companies adopting similar strategies, as reported by CNBC.

Take for instance Microsoft’s Bing. In order to compete with Google, Microsoft launched Bing but much to the former’s disappointment, it didn’t make a lot of difference to the latter’s popularity growth. A similar case is that of Google too when it tried to challenge Facebook in 2011 with its social network Google+.

Coming back to Facebook, it recently launched yet another Snapchat-like feature called Facebook Stories along with Facebook Camera and Direct.

The company has been accused of copying Snapchat since it launched the ‘Stories’ feature on Instagram. In fact, the social media giant even offered to buy Snapchat in 2013 for 3$ billion however, Snapchat declined the offer.
