Bengaluru commuters can show documents on mParivahan and Digilocker to traffic police

Bengaluru citizens can now produce their driving license, registration certificate or other documents to the traffic police in the digital form, without any fines. The Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways (MoRTH) issued an advisory last week after confusion set in among commuters after the traffic police tweeted that motorists must carry original copy of insurance.

“It is here by clarified that The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) has issued an advisory to states to accept driving licence, Registration certificate or other documents in 'electronic form' presented through Digilocker or mParivahan platform as valid under the Motor Vehicle Act 1988 and treat them at par with the certificates issued by the transport authorities,” a statement by Bengaluru Traffic Police said.

However, they clarified that in case drivers were found to be violating traffic rules hard copies would be required.  Along with this no pictures, scans or screenshots kept otherwise on handsets would be accepted.

Digilocker and mParivahan  are applications set up by the Ministry of Electronic and IT and the Transport ministry, respectively to provide easier access to documents.  Both are available as applications easily on play stores of smartphone operating systems.
