Dyson launched an air purifier plus heater uniquely engineered for year round use, the new Dyson Pure Hot+Cool air purifier. It delivers fast and even room heating in winter, powerful cooling in summer and efficient purification through all seasons. The machine automatically detects airborne particles and gases and simultaneously reports to the new LCD screen and Dyson Link app in real time, encouraging wellbeing and maintaining comfort levels in the home.

Air pollution is a huge problem in India with 14 out of 15 most polluted cities in the world in terms of PM 2.5 are in India, as per a recent WHO report. As awareness rises, equal importance has been given to indoor air quality as we spend majority of our time indoors. Furthermore, the outdoor pollution can enter the home and when combined with indoor pollution sources like cooking fumes, cleaning products, pet dander and disintegrated faeces, can make indoor air quality equally or more harmful than outdoor air quality.

Moreover, air pollution in India is a year-round problem, with pollution hitting its peak in winter months especially in northern part of the country. The North region in India, also witnesses extreme temperatures ranging from 50 degrees in summer to as low as 4 degrees or lower in winter. This variation in temperatures across the year and high pollution levels through the year makes Dyson Pure Hot+Cool air purifier an all year round technology that is suitable for all seasons.

Sam Bernard, Global Category Director, Environmental Control, says, "A good air purifier should sense, capture, project, heat and cool you. We insist on developing technology that works properly, without compromise on any functions. Our latest machine goes beyond standard tests. It heats and cools you quickly and effectively – while always purifying the whole room."

Indoor generation

Every day we can breathe in up to 9,000 litres of air. Living in the era of the “indoor generation”, we are breathing in more pollutants indoors as we are spending up to 90% of our time behind closed doors. Indoor pollution can come from outside when we open the windows or doors, but it can also be produced from everyday activities in our home.

The bedroom, where we spend approximately one third of our lives can be a polluted place at home. Potential sources include particulate matter from city pollution, VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds) from hair spray and perfume, formaldehyde from foam furniture, dust and allergens from carpets and benzene from scented candles. In the kitchen and living room, cleaning products emit VOCs, dander from household pets, gas hobs and other cooking processes release particulate matter, fumes and odours. As modern homes are becoming better sealed to comply with energy efficiency requirements, those pollutants can be trapped inside and air circulation can be compromised.

Sensing: A new LCD shows the particles and gases the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool air purifier is automatically sensing in real time using a unique Dyson algorithm.

Lasers measure and identify fine particles. Another sensor detects the amount of VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds), such as benzene and formaldehyde, and NO2 (Nitrogen Dioxide) present. And the third sensor measures relative humidity and temperature.

Capturing: Dyson engineers have incorporated 60% more HEPA media into a taller and deeper HEPA filter, and they’ve introduced three times more activated carbon, which can absorb gases, odours, domestic fumes and VOCs.

Nine meters of a condensed and sealed borosilicate microfiber filter captures 99.95% of particle pollution as small as 0.1microns, including allergens, bacteria, pollen and mould spores. Activated carbon filters, which have been coated with Tris (Trishydroxymethylaminomethane) to increase their absorption efficiency, remove gases including NO2, formaldehyde and benzene.

Projecting: By expanding the degree of oscillation to 350⁰ degrees and using Air Multiplier Technology, the machine can project up to over 290 litres of purified air per second to every corner of the room.

Dyson engineers tested the machine using a moveable 3D rig fitted with velocity probes to measure air force at different levels within the room. Using this data, we made numerous iterations of our air apertures to make sure that our machine circulates the air effectively for whole and even room purification.

Heating: To deliver better heating performance, Dyson engineers optimized the air amplifier geometry to balance room mixing and tested 80 different heating configurations of the heating element to find the most suitable combination.

With thermostat heat control, the machine automatically keeps your room at the target temperature. The heating function will switch to stand-by mode once the target is reached and will switch back on, once it senses a drop in the temperature.

Engineered for real homes

Industry standard purifier tests are conducted in small chambers with a ceiling fan and only 1 sensor, which is not representative of actual living room environments. Dyson engineers go beyond industry tests and developed the POLAR test based on a bigger room size, with no added ceiling fan. Eight sensors in the corners of the room and one sensor in the centre collect air quality data every 5 seconds, detecting particles of indoor air pollution that are 300 times narrower than a human hair. Analysing the data across all nine sensors lets Dyson engineers ensure the Dyson Pure Hot+Cool air purifier delivers a uniform cleaning performance throughout the whole room.

Fan mode

The Dyson Pure Hot+Cool air purifier features a unique new diffused airflow mode along with fan mode. To maintain airflow projection out the front of the machine, the baffle stays in place to deliver a powerful, frontward stream of purified air. This can cool you down in the summer while simultaneously purifying the room.

Diffused mode

In Diffused mode, a baffle in the amplifier moves to block the front aperture, diverting air through the rear of the annular loop at a 45⁰ angle. Because the aperture is wider, this creates a more diffused airflow, uses less energy, generates less noise and purification effectiveness is maintained.

Dyson Link app: Available for iOS and Android, the Dyson Link app enables you to track indoor and outdoor pollution, temperature and humidity levels. You can also use it to control your machine and see how many hours of filter life you have left.

The new machines come with full Over the Air Update Capability (OTA) – meaning Dyson product owners can continue to get the most advanced Dyson software even after purchasing the machine.

Priced at Rs 52,900, the Dyson air purifier comes with a 2-year warranty period.
