In the recently concluded Microsoft Build Developer Conference, the company stressed its roadmap for a mixed reality based computing experience. To support that claim, Microsoft unveiled a pair of motion controllers for its existing hardware supporting Windows Mixed Reality.

The new controllers are meant to be a replacement for the existing XBOX controllers for the Mixed Reality headsets from the Microsoft ecosystem. The controllers won’t have any external tracking sensors but will offer "precise and responsive tracking of movement in your field of view using the sensors in your headset," says Terry Myerson, executive vice president of Microsoft's Windows and Devices Group. The controllers don’t work with Hololens though.

The controllers resemble a mixture of design cues from the Oculus controllers and HTC Vive controllers. There is a thumbstick, similar to ones found on the XBOX controller, accompanied by a touch-based trackpad. The controller has a tracking ring on the top adorned with LED lights. On the body, there’s a Windows button and a side grip trigger.

The controllers will be paired with the Acer Windows Mixed Reality headsets for the upcoming “holiday” season and will be yours for a sum of $399.
