Apple AirPods 2 could launch in the near future
The second-generation Apple AirPods have been listed on a Bluetooth Special Interest Group’s regulatory database.
At the Apple iPhone 7 event held way back in September 2016, the Cupertino-based smartphone manufacturer introduced a new product — the Apple AirPods which was a truly refined product from a nascent gadget category. Now, in 2018, the Apple AirPods are the hottest selling true wireless headphones in the world. So, an updated version of the product has been expected since quite a while. When Apple took to the stage to introduce the iPhone XS/XS Max and the XR, there were rumblings which suggested that Apple would launch the second generation AirPods. However, it made a no-show at the event and neither did it appear at the October iPad event as well.
A report by MySmartPrice has managed to get details regarding the second generation AirPods as they have discovered them being listed on a Bluetooth Special Interest Group's regulatory database. These new AirPods come with model numbers A2031 and A2032 which could correspond to the left and right AirPod with the models having already completed the Bluetooth Qualification process.
The hardware version number of the AirPods are listed at REV1.1 while the original AirPods had a hardware listing of REV1.0. The new AirPods are expected to connect to Apple products like the iPhone, iPads and MacBooks using the new Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity option. Apart from this, no other details have been provided.
A related report by MacRumors state, “Rumors have suggested that Apple is working on second-generation AirPods with an improved wireless chip that supports hands-free "Hey Siri" functionality. AirPods with "Hey Siri" support were shown off in a September Apple video when the iPhone launched, but upgraded AirPods did not make an appearance at Apple's September or October events.”
As of now, there is no word on when and where Apple will release these updated AirPods, but since it already passed through the Bluetooth Special Interest Group, the announce date should be in the near future.
