Stern test awaits golfers as Louis Philippe Cup set to tee off
The going is not likely to be easy for the likes of Gangjee & the rest, as this is the first time a pro event is being held at the course in 5 years.
New Delhi: Official World Golf Rankings points will be up for grabs at the Louis Philippe Cup, an Asian Development Tour and Professional Golf Tour of India co-sanctioned event, that is set to tee-off at Bengaluru’s picturesque Prestige Golfshire Club course on Tuesday.
A total of 132 golfers will fight it out in the $75,000 four-day stroke play event. The Indian challenge will be led by two-time winner on the Asian Tour Rahil Gangjee, who will hope the Louis Philippe Cup stays at home.
Measuring close to 7,000 yards, the award-winning Prestige Golfshire Club offers an 18-hole championship course, which will provide a stern test for participants.
The going is not likely to be easy for the likes of Gangjee and the rest, as this is the first time a pro event is being held at the course in five years. The layout too has undergone considerable changes to make the going tough for slow adapters.
To begin with, it will be a par 70 golf course and no longer the regular par 72 as was generally the case at the Prestige. The Kolkata bred and Bengaluru-based Gangjee, who won his second career Asian Tour event this year, winning the $1.37 million Panasonic Open Golf Championship in Ibaraki, Japan, in April this year, said he is expecting “interesting competition”.
