Rizvi, Thakur colleges book RFYS semi-final slots

Rizvi College of Arts, Science and Commerce and Thakur College of Science and Commerce cruised into the senior semi-finals of the Reliance Foundation Youth Sports tournament in contrasting fashions.
Rizvi quelled a brave challenge from Jai Hind College, especially their midfielder Neil Menezes, to win 6-3 at Father Agnel ground, Vashi. In the other quarter-final, at the same ground the Thakur boys had a relatively easier passage notching up a 3-0 win over KJ Somaiya College of Arts and Commerce.

Gaurang Shinde helped Rizvi break away to a two-goal lead (3-1) at half-time with a double strike within a span of two minutes. After resumption, Surojit Dolai extended that lead in the 56th minute.
Player of the match Neil brought Jai Hind into the game by scoring two goals — in the 61st and 68th minutes — to complete a hat-trick. Dnyaneshwar Janitwar eventually had the final say in the proceedings, slotting in two late goals.
In contrast, Thakur College played a patient game once they scored the first goal in the 38th minute through player of the match Moiz Lakhana. Asif Khan and captain Mithilesh Kasare consolidated the lead, finding the target in the 75th and last minute of the match respectively.
