Dambuk Valley (Arunachal Pradesh): Sanbir Dhaliwal and Padam Chauhan of Gerrari Offroaders set the early pace as they led after Stage One of the JK Tyre-Orange 4x4 Fury, an offroading event in the picturesque lower Dibang Valley, that got under way here on Thursday.

The Chandigarh duo transversed all the mandatory obstacles in a sharp time of 10.41 minutes.

The team, comprising of two cars each led by Dhaliwal and Chauhan, were well supported by co-drivers Gurpartap Singh and Maneet Sandhu, as they found their way past a 10 foot pit and later another obstacle, using two planks which were barely as wide as the tyres.

In all, there were eight obstacles and the off-roading vehicles were put to a gruelling test. The three pits, lined up next to each other, needed the teams to drag planks to make their way past all the pits.

Said Dhaliwal later, “One has to coordinate a lot. One mistake and it could have thrown things off. The drivers, co-drivers and the machines all needed be in sync as the entry points into the pits and the exits were quite tough.”

Seven teams are taking part in the second edition of the JK 4x4 Fury event, which coincides with the Orange Festival of Adventure and Music with performers from India and abroad keeping the participants and locals engaged till the wee hours.

On Day One, only three teams could complete Stage One. There is also a special category for participants from the North-east who can take part as individuals with two members making up a team in one car. On Thursday they had a good run, with four of them getting past all the obstacles.

Divided into eight stages, the event will culminate on Saturday.
