Margao: Brazil finished their Group D engagements in style, beating Niger 2-0 to maintain their all-win record 2-0 here on Friday.

In-form striker Lincoln put Brazil ahead in the fourth minute, combining superbly with playmaker Paulinho.

Brenner doubled the three-time champions’ advantage in the 34th minute.

The South Americans were superior in every department over the Africans, who finished with three points in three matches.

Brazil and Spain qualified directly from the group. Niger’s fate hangs in the balance. They will hope to qualify to the Round of 16 as one of the third best teams from the six groups.

Iran clinch top spot
Earlier, Iran blanked Costa Rica 3-0 to top Group C with an all-win record in the day’s first game in Margao.

Iran had already secured a place in the Round of 16 with wins over Guinea and Germany.

In the final group game, Iran scored through Mohammed Ghobeishavi (25th minute), Taha Shariati (29th) and Mohammad Sardari (89th) to top the group with nine points from three matches.

Germany, who beat Guinea 3-1 at Kochi, finished second with six points, and will now travel to Delhi to play Colombia in the knockout round.

Costa Rica and Guinea finished the group stage with one point each.

Iran, who topped this group, stay in Goa and will play against one of the third best teams from either Group A, B or F on October 17.
