Australian teams struck in Sri Lanka intending to leave the island at the earliest

At present, three Australian teams from Canberra (Under 13) , Sydney (Under-15) and Perth (ladies team) are struck there.

Mumbai: Three cricket teams comprising of young players from Australia are struck in Sri Lanka and intending to leave at the earliest, according to Kushil Gunasekera, the founder of the charity institution-Foundation Goodness.

Speaking exclusively over telephone from Colombo, Kushil Gunasekera said, "we invite 60 overseas sports teams mainly from Australia, New Zealand and UK to play in Sri Lanka".

"At present three Australian teams from Canberra (Under 13) , Sydney (Under-15) and Perth (ladies team) are already here. The players do not want to step out owing to security concerns and because of the attacks by the terrorist in the city, players want to leave at the earliest".

"Eight more teams were scheduled to arrive in Sri Lanka on May 2 but it is likely that they will also cancel the program".  

"This will affect the tourism sector and the many opportunities that the Foundation of Goodness will have, to help with their humble endeavors".  

Muttiah Muralitharan, Kumar Sangakkara, Mahela Jaywardene and Russel Arnold are few of the distinguished personalities attached with this institution.

Murali's family friends affected by this incident. Few families of Muralitharan's close friends are also affected with the terrorist attacks.

"Murali has many friends from St. Anthony's College, Kandy, where he was studying and Murali and his wife Madhi are very upset. Murali (IPL assignment) and his wife and two children are in India and have concerns for their friends families", a source close to Murali, says.
