In an interview with the IANS, a board functionary stated that good teams learn from their mistakes and they immediately start preparing.

Mumbai: After India’s World Cup ouster following their 18-runs defeat against the kiwis, there have been a lot of discussion on which areas should India aim to work on and what new strategies can be adopted to fix the middle-order woes. The BCCI will also look into the matter of split captaincy after a news got circulated, stating that there had been a major rift between Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

In an interview with the IANS, a board functionary stated that good teams learn from their mistakes and they immediately start preparing after a disastrous campaign and the biggest example is that of England who won their first title after the 2015 World Cup debacle. Hence, before the 2023 World Cup, the BCCI is aiming to change the ODI captain, that is, the unit is looking make Rohit as the ODI and T20 captain, while Virat Kohli will continue to lead the test team.

The functionary stated, "This would be the right time for Rohit to take over the mantle of the captaincy in the 50-over format. There has been immense support to the present captain and the management and it is time to plan ahead for the next World Cup and for that the existing ideas and plans need a fresh look. We all know some areas need a relook. Rohit would be the right man for the job."

However, the functionary also pointed out that after India’s World Cup exit, there have some talks which states different camps and rumours of a rift between the Kohli and Rohit. This could hamper the environment inside the Indian team. Before the team looks to move on, the matter is slated to be discussed when the World Cup performance review meeting takes place with head coach Ravi Shastri, captain Virat Kohli and chief selector MSK Prasad, apart from them the the Committee of Administrators (CoA) will be present.

The functionary stated, "You are aware that Vinod Rai (CoA chief) has already mentioned that a review meeting will take place. This will have to be ascertained when the review takes place and it is important to get to the bottom of these rumours."

Nevertheless, CoA chief, Vinod Rai has declared that a review meeting will be held to evaluate the team’s performance, clearly there are few areas which needs to sorted as quicly as possible.

Intriguingly, the last time a meeting was held between the captain, coach and chief selector, in the presence of CoA chief, was during the Test match against West Indies in Hyderabad last year. A difference in opinion was seen when it came to giving rest to players in the IPL taking cognizance of the World Cup in mind.
