The International Cricket Council (ICC) on Friday condemned the shootings that took place in two mosques here while backing the New Zealand Cricket Board's decision to call off the final Test match with Bangladesh.

"Our thoughts and sincere condolences go out to the families and friends of those affected by this horrendous incident in Christchurch. Both teams, staff and match officials are safe and the ICC fully supports the decision to cancel the Test match," ICC's CEO David Richardson said in an official statement.

The Bangladesh cricket team was on their way to the Masjid Al Noor to offer Friday prayers when the incident took place.

The team is currently in lockdown at their team hotel.

This attack was described by the Prime Minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern as "one of New Zealand's darkest days".

With the final Test match being called off, New Zealand have won the three-match Test series 2-0 against Bangladesh.
