Mumbai: According to a report in the Trinidad and Tobago Guardian, Cricket West Indies (CWI) board of directors, on Saturday, took the decision to appoint Kieron Pollard as captain of the West Indies team in T20Is and ODIs.

This decision to sack Jason Holder and Carlos Brathwaite as skippers of ODI and T20 teams came after a poor performance from the team as well as the captains.

The report states that the selection committee proposed Pollard as captain and when the vote was taken he got support from six directors. Pollard’s last ODI was in 2016. After that, he wasn’t given a chance to play for the national team. In the recently concluded India tour of West Indies, he was given a chance in the T20 series wherein he was the only West Indian player to flourish against India.

In ODIs, the mighty Trinidadian has played 101 matches and scored 2289 runs at an average of 25.71 with three centuries and nine fifties along with 50 wickets. Whereas, in T20Is, he has scored 903 runs in 62 matches at an average of 21.50 and has snared 23 wickets.
