Attack shows Pak anxious to spread terror actively

Even as the home ministry on Thursday indicated that the terrorists who carried out the Jammu terror attack had infiltrated from PoK, defence sources said the attack on an Army camp at the border town of Samba in the Jammu region is proof that Pakistan is anxious to spread terror actively to the Jammu region and widen the arc of conflict and insurgency beyond the Kashmir valley. In the terror attack on the Samba Army camp of the 16 Cavalry unit, the Army also suffered casualties including the second-in-command of the unit Lt. Col. Bikramjeet Singh. The Commanding Officer of the unit, Col. A. Uthaiah, was also badly injured in the attack. Sources said Pakistan is desperately pushing in terrorists as part of its plan to step up infiltration south of the Pir Panjal ranges into the Jammu region. The government on Thursday said the terrorists who carried out the audacious twin terror attacks had come from “across the border”. The three terrorists, who carried out attacks, came from across the border on Thursday morning, home minister Sushilkumar Shinde confirmed hours after the attack. All three terrorists were killed by the Army. Preliminary reports with the home ministry (MHA) suggested that the terrorists came from PoK, managed to cross the international border, and then later hijacked a lorry or an auto from Jandi which is two to three kilometres from the border to carry out the attack. Defence sources said the terror attack appeared to have been a very well-planned operation which probably involved months of reconnaissance activities in advance. MHA sources said it appeared to be a fresh infiltration bid in the Hiranagar sector to launch the audacious attack, the first on a police station and then on an Army camp.
