The Hindu College Staff Association on Wednesday strongly condemned the use of “violence, provocative and abusive” language at the meeting on Tuesday, in which two teachers were assaulted by their colleagues when they were walking out of the meeting. P.K. Vijayan, president, on behalf of the executive committee of the Hindu College Staff Association, said, “The Hindu College Staff Association unequivocally and strongly condemns the use of violence, provocative and abusive language at the meeting. It condemns the extreme disrespect that was shown to the vast majority of the House. It also condemns the attempts by a handful of motivated and mischievous members to undermine the legitimacy and value of the Association.” However, the association claimed, “This assault led to an utterly disgraceful exchange of physical violence, which we reiterate, was initiated by the departing members.” On Tuesday, during the staff association meeting, due to difference of opinion, many teachers walked out alleging that the association had no validity since it had no constitution. Later, a member of the association’s ruling faction allegedly attacked teacher Shankar Kumar from behind. When another teacher tried to intervene, he was also attacked.
