Aishwarya to walk the red carpet at Cannes today; can she better these looks from the past?

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, one of the few Indian names synonymous with the Cannes film festival, will be walking the red carpet on Friday. Here we take you through her attire journey over the past 15 years.

Cannes 2002: Aishwarya debuted at Cannes film festival, where her film 'Devdas' starring Shah Rukh Khan and directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali was screened. Her heavily embellished bright yellow Neeta Lulla saree with heavy gold jewellery was heavily criticised.

Cannes 2003: Aishwarya chose a neon green Neeta Lulla half-saree and her jewellery and top knot were panned by critics.

Cannes 2004: The actress made an appearance as the brand ambassador of L'Oreal for the first time and was dressed in an ill-fitting Neeta Lulla silver gown with Chopard earrings.

Cannes 2005: The actress wore a printed dress by Gorgio Armani and a black Gucci number and both the outfits were appreciated.

Cannes 2006: Aishwarya chose a midnight blue strapless gown by Roberto Cavalli which was accesorised with a snake-shaped neck piece.

Cannes 2007: It was her first appearance after her marriage to Abhishek Bachchan and her hubby accompanied her to the red carpet as their film 'Guru' was also screened. The actress dazzled in a silver white strapless gown by Giorgio Armani, with a diamond choker to go with it.

Cannes 2008: Abhishek Bachchan accompanied her again. She wore a gold gown on day one, followed by a black gown the next day and a fuchsia dress on the last day. Her outfits were designed by Elie Saab and Roberto Cavalli.

Cannes 2009: Aishwarya sizzled on the red carpet wearing a white strapless gown by Roberto Cavalli and an off-shoulder teal Elie Saab gown.

Cannes 2010: Aishwarya was dressed in a violet off-shoulder gown by Elie Saab on day one, a black strapless gown by Armani Prive the next day and sequined gold Sabyasachi saree on the third day.

Cannes 2011: Aishwarya made a style statement with the Elie Saab one shoulder embroidered off-white gown and a geometric Armani Prive gown, with her smokey eyes doing all the talking.

Cannes 2012: The actress got trolled for her weight gain post the birth of her daughter Aaradhya. Aishwarya, however, carried the shimmering grey Elie Saab and the Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla saree with aplomb.

Cannes 2013: Aishwarya stunned with a teal one-shoulder Gucci Premiere gown, a black gown by Elie Saab and an Anarkali dress by Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla.

Cannes 2014: Aishwarya's gold strapless body-hugging gown by Roberto Cavalli and the white simmering mermaid gown by the same designer was a hit with the masses.

Cannes 2015: Aishwarya's white Ralph and Russo couture gown, a maroon strapless outfit by Oscar de la Renta and a green gown by Elie Saab impressed the fashion police.

Cannes 2016: This appearance of the actress made news for the dash of purple on her lips which was heavily trolled. The actress was dressed in a Rami Kadi floral gown, an embellished pink-gold Elie Saab gown and a red ruffled gown from Naeem Khan during the film festival.
