Desi celebs react to Twitter’s potentially expanding its character limit to 10,000, in 140 characters — like a good old-fashioned tweet
Neeti Palta, comedian Dear Twitter, just when I’ve been praying to God to limit my relatives to a 140 character limit, you decide to expand yours Whyyyy!!
Sorabh Pant, comedian Twitter may extend character limit to 10,000. Why We’re here to send SMS’s, not school essays!
Samentha Fernandes, dancer, actress and stylist It doesn’t matter, the witty ones won’t need more than 140 characters make their point.
Salil Acharya, actor, anchor, VJ and RJ I think English might just survive another decade now. With all the short forms, a new language has been discovered.
Poonam Bhagat, fashion designer If this will be the case, we shall have an overload. Who has the time to write all that stuff, let alone read it
Chintan Ruparel, writer, Terribly Tiny Tales When you open up a bit, the world opens up for you. To infinity and beyond! Wish you better times ahead, Twitter
Amyra Dastur, actress I think it’s a really good thing that Twitter is expanding its character limit to 10,000. This’ll make it easier to fit everything one wants to say into one tweet itself, rather than sending multiple tweets about the same thought or topic that you wish to speak at length about. Our followers will also find it easier to keep up with everything we’re saying or doing as they won’t be missing out on important tweets — all the information will be in one paragraph. This will also cause miscommunication and misunderstandings to decrease drastically, which is extremely important as well.
Gurmeet Choudhary, actor I have only just entered this platform a few months ago myself, actually. And to be honest, the character constraint used to make me cringe initially. 140 is so little, after all! And characters, at that, not words or even just letters! I personally feel that it’s important to be given the liberty to say what one wants to say, the way one wants to say it, without limitations. This change is good, therefore. Deepika Singh, actress: The power of words is huge and when this gets taken away due to certain limitations, it gets diluted. Hence, the increase in characters on Twitter is ideal because it only adds to the platform as a space where you are able to express yourself freely, without anyone holding you back. This is a very good change considering how powerful this platform has become over time as well. Karan Patel, actor: I am so glad this is happening — primarily for the reason that posting your thoughts within the confines of a rigid character count is extremely difficult. There are many times where one is unable to communicate what one has in mind altogether. At least this way, what one feels is what one will write — without having to painstakingly edit it in a way that it still retains the gist of one’s point.
Tanuj Virwani, actor: I think Twitter is a great medium to encapsulate one’s sentiments within a few words, and I really don’t see the need to increase its character count. Why resort to an essay if one sentence conveys exactly the same thing Also, people in general don’t have the patience to sit and read so much. There won’t be much of a difference between Twitter and a blog if this comes to pass.
Apurv Nagpal, author: Twitter would lose its very reason to exist if it moved away from the 140 character limit.
Digangana Suryavanshi, actress
I think that’s a great idea. I’m sure people wanting to write less will stick to writing less and those who want to write more will now be able to do that freely too. Having said that, one of the great things about Twitter is how crisp its updates are and therefore easy to read.
Mimoh Chakraborty, actor
Twitter expanding to 10,000 is a big leap, seriously! But apart from celebs, I think it’s great that fans will be able to express themselves more freely too.
