Carolina Marin overcame a touch challenge from PV Sindhu to win the Olympic Gold in Rio de Janeiro on Friday. The World No 1 ranked Spaniard defeated the Indian 19-21, 21-12, 21-15 to win a hard-fought final.
Sindhu and Marin made unforced errors but Marin’s smashes were doing wonders for her as she continued to lead the first game against the Indian in the Rio Olympics final. While there were some uncharacteristic mistakes from both the finalist, Marin made Sindhu run across the court.
However, the Hyderabadi shuttler showed tremendous fighting spirit to win the first game 21-19 after trailing 16-19.
The Indian was all class and grit as she made a late comeback to take the one-game lead.
Marin made a strong comeback in the final after she clinched the second game with ease against Sindhu. The Spaniard, who let the three-point lead slip in the first game, did not repeat the same mistake as she bagged the second game 21-12.
