Jon Jones set for Preux showdown

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will face off Ovince Saint Preux in the UFC 197 clash at the MGM Grand here on Saturday.

Former UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones will face off Ovince Saint Preux in the UFC 197 clash at the MGM Grand here on Saturday.

The 28-year-old New Yorker Jones is returning to the octagon after a year and half layoff, but is still considered the best fighter in the UFC.

During the break, Jones focused on improving his fitness toiling hard in the build up to the clash. “I train about four times a day. I do fitness every day, cardio every day, and then the rest of the time, I do live fighting in one discipline, I do jiu-jitsu martial arts and then I do one-on-one with a trainer every day. My diet is extremely strict,” said Jones, who at 23 became the youngest UFC champion in the light heavyweight category defeating Mauricio “Shogun” Rua in 2011.

Apart from the rigorous fitness regime, Jones added, “I drink a lot of water, very little salt and a lot of lean protein and a lot of vegetable juice.”

The Rochester-born fighter had the longest light heavyweight championship reign in the history before having his belt stripped for his involvement in a hit-and-run accident in New Mexico. On Saturday for Jones, just getting back into the cage could be the best thing ever after a long hiatus.
