Home shooters failed to secure any more Rio Olympics quota for the second straight day as Singapore’s Jasmine Xer shone on the day with a gold in the 50m rifle 3 positions at the Asia Olympic qualifying competition here on Sunday. The feat earned Jasmine an Olympic berth.

Jasmine, who had cited ‘Delhi belly’ as the reason for missing out on her Olympic quota bid in the women’s 10m air rifle event on Friday, was in her elements on the day. She topped the qualifying round with a score of 586 and was clinical in the finals.

In the 45-shot final round split between the three positions of kneeling, prone and standing, Jasmine remained in the top two except briefly after the end of the prone series, when she slipped to fourth. Korea’s Kyerim Lee gave her company at the top displaying superb consistency.

Following the first five shot series of the standing round, Jasmine cemented her place at the top and following a disastrous 47.1 by home girl Elizabeth Susan Koshy, and was in control till the end.

Iran’s Mahlagha Jambozorg took the silver and Korea’s Kyerim Lee clinched the bronze, claiming the other two quotas available in this event. Elizabeth finished fourth, leaving the host country with no quotas on Day Five of the competition.

In the women’s 25m pistol event, none of the three Indians could qualify for the eight woman final after Rahi Sarnobat finished 12th with 575, Anisa Sayyed shot 572 to end 17th while Annu Raj Singh was 21st (570).

Korea swept the medals, and the Olympic quotas, with Koh Eun winning the gold, Munj-ung Kim the silver and Ji Hye Kim the bronze.
