Yann Martel this February will be releasing his long-awaited new novel The High Mountains of Portugal.

The new offering by the Booker Prize-winning author of worldwide phenomena — Life of Pi — will be a novel about talking faith, responsibility and finding the courage to face death.

“By turns funny, tragic and sublime, The High Mountains of Portugal will remind us that it is our ability to weave remarkable stories out of our spiritual and philosophical concerns that makes us — and keeps us — human,” says Penguin Random House publications, which will be releasing the book in India on February 11.

Set mostly in Portugal, The High Mountains... tells of three main characters, in three different timeframes and settings.

Martel is an international bestselling author and winner of the 2002 Man Booker, among many other prizes. He has also won awards for The Facts Behind the Helsinki Roccamatios, Self, Beatrice & Virgil, and 101 Letters to a Prime Minister.

Born in Spain in 1963, Martel studied philosophy at Trent University, worked at odd jobs-tree planter, dishwasher, security guard-and travelled widely before turning to writing. He lives in Saskatoon, Canada.
